Motive of our film : Show the audience the hardship faced during WW2.

Scene 1 : no angle

Vision : Flashing pictures of various hardships civilians experienced during the war.
(A overall summary of pictures of the hardship, to let the audience have a idea of what we are going to show them.)

Narrator Y : During times of war, people had to endure various hardships just to stay alive. Civilians experienced starvation, dehydration and there were massacres everywhere.
(Voice-over, tell what are the pictures about.)

Scene 2: Mid shot 1/3 left.

Vision : Yuenice will be sitting in 1/3 part of the shot talking, and halfway, will transact to a scene whereby kim and cherie run up a hill. Transact to a scene where kim dugs the ground to find sweet potatoes.

Narrator Y: Some people fled to the hilltops in order to escape being killed or arrested by the Japanese while others had to find their own source of food.
(to show how the people lived in fear of the japanese and the shortage of food.)

Scene 3: Wide shot, medium close-up

Vision : One person will be holding a pistol shooting someone. Then we will do a med close-up on the shot person holding his wound.

Narrator Y: The Sook Ching massacre took place during the war. Its main objective is to eliminate all hostile factors amongst the Chinese in Singapore. Anyone or group of people suspectedof being a traitor would be driven in a truck to a desserted place to be executed.
(Showing cruelty of the japanese and how unreasonable and powerful they are at that time.)

Scene 4: Close-up

Narrator Y : During ww2, all British currency had been banned and a new currency, banana notes were issued. And after the war, those whose wealth came from such notes found themselves penniless overnight. Shortage of food became a problem then as the rations the japanese gave were not enough, hence people have to find their own source of food. But the japanese were didn’t allowed buying of food in the black market, whoever was caught will be killed.

(showing the ways the japanese wanted to get the influence of western out of the mind of the civilians. )

Scene 5: wide shot

Vision : Cherie ignoring a Japanese soldier and thus, got beaten up.

Narrator Y: The Japanese were tyrannical rulers. If anyone did not greet them whie walking past them, the soldier would jus beat up the passer-by or even kill that person.

(The respect, the japnese have to be given by force.)

Scene 6: No angles

Vision : Surrendering of Japan.

Narrator Y : Everyone cheered when the Japanese finally surrendered in August 15th 1954. The formal signing of the surrender instrument was held at the Singapore City Hall, also known as the “Municipal Hall” then.

 Reflection by:Diana 08

1.Group work and individual contributions to project- include something on preparing for the presentations and what u learned having to teach the class.

I think for individual contribution,i did not do much.I did research, gave ideas on how to write the script and storyboard. As for the group work , I think everyone in my group worked with each other very well. My group leader also does his job well. I was the secetary and the director. I need to build up the script and storyboard.I gave some suggestion and together as a group we modifiyed it to make it better.

For the preparing of the presentation, i did some research on the topic. We also used Ken’s group as an example, it gave us better idea on how to present better then them. For example, we should face the audience instead of reading out from the paper. We need to interact with the audience to get them to pay attention.

On the day of the presentation , we found out that our introduction to the lesson was not good.We did not give brief details on what we were going to present. We also did not give very detail answers and that took up most of the time wasted.

2) Problems encountered and attempts to solve these: What have you learned from this?
- But must analyse reasons for problems encountered , suggest solutions and don’t just say some people were irresponsible , must explain what responsibility mean and give examples

The first trip to Fort Siloso was not what i expected to.It rained heavily and we were not able to complete filming. We only did one filming at the surrender chamber. The shot was not good as it was dark.Luckily, we were able to visit Fort Siloso again. I was worried that it might rain again but fortunately it did not.We were to engross in filming, we forgot to do the interviews. But we managed to interview our friends.I was really quite happy that we were able to film quite well. The clips that we took were well filmed. They acted quite well too.

My group did not really encounter any problems. We only encounted problems when we were preparing for the filming. They went to my house to have a discussion on the scripts, storyboard, props and research. We worked closely together and managed to finish all of the task on time.

3)Research skills, history skills like analysing sources, inferring, mindmapping, organising, questioning sources etc, multiliteracies skills ( english) such as planning movie, shooting, scripting, storyboarding

For reseach skills, i learned that we must not simply copy and paste but try to explain it with your own words with the same meaning. To analyse the sources we need to use a minmap plan to organise the source. Also when doing history questions,we need to ask ourselves some questions to help us find the answers faster. You can link them to the skills of inferring to help yourself to understand better. To organise the paragraphs, I can use the skill P.E.E.L (main Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link back to the main point).

We came together and discussed the scripts. We combined the ideas together and checked for mistakes. We checked for tenses and vocabulary. We edited many times before getting our final script. We constantly reminded each other to speak English when we were doing our projects. We looked up the dictionary to find new words. We also passed the script around our group members so that we could chip in our ideas.
