Motive of our film : Show the audience the hardship faced during WW2.
Scene 1 : no angle
Vision : Flashing pictures of various hardships civilians experienced during the war.
(A overall summary of pictures of the hardship, to let the audience have a idea of what we are going to show them.)
Narrator Y : During times of war, people had to endure various hardships just to stay alive. Civilians experienced starvation, dehydration and there were massacres everywhere.
(Voice-over, tell what are the pictures about.)
Scene 2: Mid shot 1/3 left.
Vision : Yuenice will be sitting in 1/3 part of the shot talking, and halfway, will transact to a scene whereby kim and cherie run up a hill. Transact to a scene where kim dugs the ground to find sweet potatoes.
Narrator Y: Some people fled to the hilltops in order to escape being killed or arrested by the Japanese while others had to find their own source of food.
(to show how the people lived in fear of the japanese and the shortage of food.)
Scene 3: Wide shot, medium close-up
Vision : One person will be holding a pistol shooting someone. Then we will do a med close-up on the shot person holding his wound.
Narrator Y: The Sook Ching massacre took place during the war. Its main objective is to eliminate all hostile factors amongst the Chinese in Singapore. Anyone or group of people suspectedof being a traitor would be driven in a truck to a desserted place to be executed.
(Showing cruelty of the japanese and how unreasonable and powerful they are at that time.)
Scene 4: Close-up
Vision : Close-up on banana money and kim using it to purchase sweet potato, him acting sneakyly.
Narrator Y : During ww2, all British currency had been banned and a new currency, banana notes were issued. And after the war, those whose wealth came from such notes found themselves penniless overnight. Shortage of food became a problem then as the rations the japanese gave were not enough, hence people have to find their own source of food. But the japanese were didn’t allowed buying of food in the black market, whoever was caught will be killed.
(showing the ways the japanese wanted to get the influence of western out of the mind of the civilians. )
Scene 5: wide shot
Vision : Cherie ignoring a Japanese soldier and thus, got beaten up.
Narrator Y: The Japanese were tyrannical rulers. If anyone did not greet them whie walking past them, the soldier would jus beat up the passer-by or even kill that person.
(The respect, the japnese have to be given by force.)
Scene 6: No angles
Vision : Surrendering of Japan.
Narrator Y : Everyone cheered when the Japanese finally surrendered in August 15th 1954. The formal signing of the surrender instrument was held at the Singapore City Hall, also known as the “Municipal Hall” then.
