Nigel: Scout wake up ! [shake scout]

Diana: Is it morning yet?

Nigel: No its a little after 1.

[Nigel puts cardigan on Diana]

Scene 2 – Outside house, looking at Ms Maudie’s burning house

[Scout stares at shock at the house which was on fire]

Diana: Whos house is it ?!

Nigel: Its Ms Maudies.

[Atticus turns to Jem]

Nigel: Listen, i want the both of you to go in front of the Radleys Place. Take care of your sister ok?

Crystal: okay.

[Atticus gives a push to Jem and Scout]

Scene 3- Fire truck scene

[Jem and Scout standing outside the Radleys place]

Crystal : Why is’nt the fire truck here yet?

Narrator: As the weather was too cold, the old fire truck was immobilized.

Diana: OH MY GOD!

[Jem puts arm around Scout]

Crystal: Shh it’ll be okay.

Scene 4 – Mr Avery jumps off the window

Crystal: Shout, he’s stuck …

All : MR AVERY ! GET DOWN FROM THERE !

Diana : Oh no ! Jump Mr Avery !

[Mr Avery/Yuenicec throws down cloth and jumps on it]

-Use fake smoke on a stick(?) to cover houses-

Narrator: Smoke was rolling off their houses like a fog off a river bank.

Narrator: The fire truck began pumping water on the houses.

Scene 5 – After Fire

Nigel: Anyone wants hot chocolate?

[As diana drank cocoa, Nigel looks at her]

Nigel: Whos blankey is that?

Diana: What ? i don’t know…

Nigel: Where did it come from ..

Firstly, we chose to present our documentary in a role-playing format as we felt that it is an easier way to present the sufferings of the civilians. Furthermore, role-playing is also more interesting and also, we can directly see what causing the civilians’ sufferings.

In the introduction, we see Yuenice talking and then, walk up the stairs while i zoom into the top-right background of that scene, and then i add a “black-white” and “aged film” effect to show a transition from our time to the time during the Japanese occupation. The scene which shows the words scrolling up describe the starvation amongst the civilians. We used Leona Lewis’s “Better in Time” as we felt that its introduction was a sad one.

The next scene, which shows Cherie running from Kim is actually a scene depicting a Chinese girl not showing respect to the Japanese soldier, therefore, ended up being chased and shot. We added some humor to that scene so as to not let the class get bored.

Then we went on to the scene where Yuenice is talking about the Sook-Ching massacre. After that, we went on to take a top-down shot of Kim exchanging something with someone. He is actually using banana note to buy a sack of rice from the black market. The sack was a prop we got on the spot for $2! Kim bought it from the souvenir store.

For the credits, we used some pictures such as: execution of a pow(prisoner of war), surrender chanbers etc. We used a theme called “Reflections Black” to put all pictures used and come clips together. Clips include bloopers.
