There is NOT enough research done on topic and I don’t see you drawing on various sources of information like

- books i have recommended in the PW page

- other sources like oral interviewers from those who experienced war ( also on PW page)

- archive photos showing what life was like during Japanese Occupation ( can search for these in the National Archives page and the link also posted at PW page right at the bottom)

You need to SHOW me that you are referring a variety of sources and make sure you type the book/website etc that you gpt the information from.  You also need to ask relevant research questions to help you focus on what is needed for your topic as well as to guide your reading and understanding – like skills of inferring I have taught you BUT I dont see applied here

You CANNOT copy and paste but try to rewrite based on what you understand – usually using a mindmap to plan and organise and then writing out research

Have u even read these books:

Lee Kuan Yew’s autobiography, The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew Chapter 3: The Japanese Invader

The Price of Peace, True Accounts of the Japanese Occupation by Foong Choon Hon (Editor)

Syonan: Singapore Under The Japanese 1942-45 Lee Geok Boi (pp45-115)

Search for Photos from the National Archives: http://www.a2o.com.sg/a2o/public/search/index.html

Just input topic /keywords, dates and select photographs

An EXAMPLE:

death_war.jpg

From this photograph, I can infer that the Japanese bombing of Singapore resulted in terrible loss of lives especially amongst the civilians.  In this photograph, you can see that the bombing has reduced buildings to rubble and a dead child is lying amongst the rubble, an innocent victim of war.  The lady sitting next to the rubble could be her grandmother and you can see the devastation and grief in her eyes as she watched helplessly.  From this I can conclude that war is a horrendous experience and the brutality of war is something which should be avoided at all cost.

From your research, interpretation and understanding of sources such as this, you could try to write your own learning point like:

World War 2 was a terrible experience for the civilian population in Singapore.  Even before the Japanese Occupation , the peace and prosperity of Singapore was already rudely disturbed by the incessant bombings by the Japanese.  For the first time, the people in Singapore realised that war was coming and that Singapore was not protected.  When the Japanese became the rulers of Singapore or Syonan-to ( the new name they gave), the civilian population suddenly discovered that Singapore wasn’t the Light of the South as the japanese has promised and instead what they were to experience was three and a half years of living nightmare.

You might find it useful to mindmap the different experiences under different categories and questions eg

- how was daily life changed after the japs became rulers of Singapore?

- how did the Japs treat the ordinary people? – subdivided into categories like the use of terror and torture, maintaining law and order etc

I have suggested some questions , continue to discuss and brainstorm more

For Fort Siloso filming:

focus on the message that war should be avoided at all cots – explain why basing this on the horrific war experiences u have researched

- you should think abt how you would SHOW this through the narrator’s script /role play/interviews ( students after tour/tour guide)

- the script should be written with careful choice of words – like the brutality of the Japanese or how the attack of singapore and the surrender by british started 31/2 years of nightmare for the people in singapore

- remember the words should be carefully chosen to SHOW NOT TELL – especially useful when u plan storyboard to think of WHAT backdrop or images can be used during filming at Fort Siloso to show this .

When writing your script, remember to use the info you got from your research and think about the MESSAGE of your film.

Will you be interviewing anyone – maybe your classmtes after they view the guided tour – think of questions ( specific) related to war experience which allows them to put themselves in the shoes of those who suffered through the war eg Would you be able to survive with food rationing ( like during jap Occupation)? How would you feel if one of your family members or friend was taken away during Sook Ching? etc

Consider also what the narrator shld say to introduce the film and what you will stress – word choice here is impt like nightmare years of Japanese Occupation began in…..The narrator shouldn’t speak for long stretches without change in backdrop and you should plan storyboard according to different sections of exhibits like if one section was on the brutality of the Japanese – how would the narrator introduce that segment.

You need to post a draft of script soon so I can check and give comments
